‘’ONE BRICK AT A TIME’’ is a school construction project designed by Dharmic Foundation in Mukono district to benefit over 500 young underprivileged children who cannot afford quality education and basic school needs. It is the belief of Dharmic Foundation that education is pivotal in alleviating poverty and improving livelihoods. Therefore, having a school built in this poverty stricken community will enhance education while reducing the illiteracy levels by bringing an education facility closer to them.
The main objective of the project is to build a primary school for the vulnerable children in Namina village in Mukono district. The proposed school shall consist of up to seven classes from primary one to primary seven with at least 55 children occupying each class. An administration office and a multipurpose main hall shall also be constructed to help in the smooth running of the school .On completion of the school construction, admission of pupils will commence and these will be required to pay a subsidized charge for school fees.
This project shall be executed in 3 non equal phases to last about 18 month from start. Phase 1 shall be construction of latrines and classroom blocks which will last up to 30 weeks. Phase 2 shall be Furnishing the classes, office and equipping the library with books and computers that will take about 3 weeks. Phase 3 shall be construction of a multipurpose main hall for dining and other functions and paying allowances and salaries of the teaching staff for the 1st six month.
The project is set to benefit the entire community as over 500 surrounding children shall have access to this relatively cheap education facility. The first beneficiaries shall be the 50 pupils that are already enrolled to the Dharmic Foundation education sponsorship program. The community shall also benefit in the employment opportunities created by this project, such as teachers and senior staff.
